Remote Islands

Exploring the World’s Most Remote Islands

About

Our Mission

Remote Islands is dedicated to documenting and celebrating the world’s most isolated, fascinating, and often forgotten islands. From volcanic peaks rising out of the Southern Ocean to tiny coral atolls scattered across the Pacific, we explore the places that sit at the edges of the map — and at the heart of some of the planet’s most remarkable stories.

With over 850 islands profiled and counting, our goal is to build the most comprehensive resource on remote islands anywhere on the web. Each article dives into an island’s geography, ecology, culture, and history, bringing these distant places closer to curious readers around the world.

What We Cover

Every island has a story. Some are home to species found nowhere else on Earth. Others hold centuries of human history, from Polynesian navigators to Antarctic explorers. Many face urgent conservation challenges as climate change reshapes coastlines and ecosystems.

Our articles explore volcanic islands and coral atolls, uninhabited wildlife sanctuaries and thriving indigenous communities, legendary shipwrecks and modern marine reserves. Whether an island sits in the tropics or the sub-Antarctic, if it’s remote and remarkable, you’ll find it here.

About the Author

What started as a personal research hobby grew into this blog — a way to share the wonder of these far-flung places with anyone who’s ever looked at a map and wondered, “What’s out there?”
